Lyngvær is Lofoten with the volume turned down. The house sits on the shore in the middle of the islands: sea in front, mountains across the water, Henningsvær about 15 minutes by car. Big panorama windows and a Harvia sauna. You rent the whole house, so the only queue is for the sauna – and with two bathrooms, not even for the shower.

Why stay in Lyngvær
If Reine is the postcard, Lyngvær is where you exhale. It sits in the middle of the islands, so most of what you came for – Henningsvær, Kabelvåg, Svolvær, the beaches of Gimsøy and Vestvågøy – is a short drive away. At the end of the day you come back to water, mountains and a lot of sky.
Private, properly
You rent the whole house – nobody through the wall, nobody in the kitchen but you. The house is in Lyngvær, in the area of the Lyngvær Lodges – a small settlement of holiday homes – and sits on the best plot in it. It feels very private all the same; that is not a sales line, it is the reason the owners chose it.
The location, honestly
The middle of the islands is the best place to stop driving and start doing. Henningsvær is about 15 minutes away; Kabelvåg, Svolvær and the beaches of Gimsøy are short drives too. In the evening you come back to the quiet: water, mountains, a lot of sky.
Looking for a rorbu in Lyngvær?
Fair question – and the honest answer is: this isn't one. A rorbu is a fisherman's cabin on the quay, usually compact and often one of many in a row. The Lyngvær house is a modern home on the shore with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sauna. What you would want from a rorbu – the sea right outside the window – you get here too. If you want the real thing for a night, the harbours of Henningsvær and Svolvær have them. The longer comparison: Rorbu or private house?
Inside
The living room is built around the panorama window. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms mean six people do not queue in the morning. The kitchen island faces the view, and the washer and dryer deal with wet hiking gear.
The sauna
A Finnish Harvia sauna in the house, the sea right outside. In summer the midnight sun stays up as long as you do. In winter you sit outside under a dark sky and wait – this is a good place to see the northern lights.
Working from here
The fibre line measured 172 Mbit/s. If you need to take a call, you can. If you do not, better still.

Good questions
How private are the houses?
Very. You always rent the whole house – every room, the sauna, the grounds. The Reine house stands alone on its own plot with an unobstructed view over Reinefjord. Lyngvær is part of a small holiday-home settlement, sits on the best plot in it and feels very private all the same.
Is it a rorbu?
No. Both are modern houses with three bedrooms and a sauna. A rorbu is a traditional fisherman's cabin on the quay. If you want one for a night, the harbours have them; we compare both in our rorbu guide.
Are bed linen and towels included?
Bed linen is part of the house equipment. For towels and final cleaning, we confirm the details for your dates when you book.
How many guests can stay?
Both houses have 3 bedrooms. Reine takes up to 9 guests, with a box-spring double bed in each bedroom plus a sofa bed and an extra bed, and 1 bathroom. Lyngvær takes up to 6 guests: two bedrooms with a double bed, one with two single beds, and 2 bathrooms.
What kind of sauna do the houses have?
In Reine the sauna is a small separate hut right next to the house – a real outdoor sauna with a big window looking out over Reinefjord and the mountains around it, and nobody can see in. In Lyngvær it is a Finnish Harvia sauna in the house. Cool off in the Arctic air – or in the sea, if you are feeling brave.
Is there Wi-Fi? Can I work remotely?
Yes. Both houses have fibre broadband; in Lyngvær it measured 172 Mbit/s. Good enough for video calls – whether you take them is up to you.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in from 4 pm (16:00), check-out by 11 am. Lyngvær has self check-in; everything you need arrives by email before your trip.
Is there parking?
Yes, right at both houses. In Lofoten you will want a car anyway.
What is a Long Stay?
A stay of two weeks or more in one of the houses, arranged personally rather than booked online – for a career break or sabbatical, remote work, a winter of northern lights or simply living in Lofoten for a while. Send your dates and plans through the long-stay enquiry and you get a personal reply with availability and terms.
How long can a Long Stay be?
From two weeks to about three months per stay. Long stays are holiday stays: you keep your home elsewhere, and the details – cleaning during the stay, electricity, the agreement – are confirmed in writing before you arrive.
Can I see the northern lights from the house?
On a clear night with aurora activity, yes – both houses face open sky over the water, away from city lights. Nobody can guarantee the aurora. The northern lights guide explains how to improve your odds.
Which airport should I fly into?
For Reine, the closest airport is Leknes (LKN), via Bodø; or take the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes. For Lyngvær, Svolvær (SVJ) and Leknes are closest; Harstad/Narvik Evenes (EVE) has more flights and a longer drive. See Getting there.
How far is Lyngvær from Henningsvær?
About 15 minutes by car.

The other house
Reine, in the heart of Lofoten.
The place that stands for Lofoten like no other: a house on its own plot with an unobstructed view over Reinefjord. Reinebringen and the beaches of Moskenesøya on your doorstep.
