Henningsvær
A fishing village spread across small islands, linked by bridges. Cafés, galleries, fish-drying racks and that football pitch on the rocks you've seen in a thousand photos.
Come in the evening, when the day visitors have left.
The middle of the islands – fishing villages, the classic Henningsvær hike and beaches in every direction.
From Lyngvær, Henningsvær is about 15 minutes by car. Kabelvåg and Svolvær – with boat trips to the Trollfjord – are nearby, the Festvågtind hike starts on the road to Henningsvær, and the beaches of Gimsøy, Haukland and Uttakleiv plus the Lofotr Viking Museum make easy day trips west.
Lyngvær sits in the middle of the islands, which makes it a very practical base: you can head east to Svolvær and Kabelvåg, south to Henningsvær, or west to Gimsøy and Vestvågøy without long drives back. Svolvær airport is the closest; Leknes is the other option.
Winter: snowy villages, skrei fishing season from around January, and dark nights for the aurora. Henningsvær's racks fill with drying cod from late winter.
Summer: the midnight sun, long hikes, boat trips into the Trollfjord, beaches at 11 pm.
Autumn: a calm, golden time, ideal for photography and the first northern lights.
